25 Simple Blog SEO and Traffic Tips

This is a nice concise list of 25 ways to greatly increase your blog's traffic and search rankings.

1) Content is king!

2) Submit your site to as many search engines as possible. After the initial indexing I would recommend resubmitting every 6 months.

3) Comment on as many blogs as possible. Make your comments thoughtful and not spammy.

4) Link up with popular blogs - trackbacks can be good for SEO as well as your traffic.

5) Write a good article and post it on a site like http://www.digg.com, although this won't help as far as traffic goes (you will get a HUGE boost for a few hours, then it will tone back down, you probably won't get any permanent readers from Digg) and it sure doesn't help with your relationship with your web host, it can create some new inbound links.

6) Use http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ . Instead of the GoogleBot searching for your pages you can tell it where your pages are. This is a great way to get your whole site indexed.

7) Content is king!

8) Get listed on web directories like http://www.dmoz.com/. Although many SEO "experts" think it is overrated no one disagrees that it can help boost your site's rankings.

9) Add some links for feed readers and blog aggregators like http://www.bloglines.com/, http://www.google.com/reader/, and http://myweb.yahoo.com/.

10) Add some social bookmarking links at the bottom of each post

11) Make it easy for your users to find your RSS feed

12) Add a "E-mail This!" link either on the header or the footer of each post

13) Content is king! (see a pattern?)

14) If you write a really good post try e-mailing the URL to some big-name bloggers with a short personalized message. You never know, they might like it and link to it.

15) Try asking some big sites who are in your niche if they would like to trade links. More often than not they will say "no", but at least give it a try.

16) Don't obsess over "get rich quick" schemes.

17) Don't obsess over "get lots of traffic really quick" schemes.

18) Submit your RSS feed to a bunch of RSS directories, http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-directory.htm has a large list of popular directories.

19) Use http://pingomatic.com/ to notify a ton of aggregators that your site has been updated.

20) Don't obsess over the numbers - it takes time to build up a good reader base.

21) Make your posts as keyword rich as possible. Whenever you can use a word that has to do with your niche, use it!

22) Use lists, especially if your site is targeted towards more tech-savvy users

23) If you have a MySpace page or a home page on a similar service put up a link to your blog.

24) Tag important keywords, using this site ( http://www.richardrodger.com/tags.htm ) you can tag keywords.

25) Last but not least, offer free stuff. Everyone loves free stuff!

The really important thing you have to remember is, just have fun. If your blog is causing you to become stressed out then it probably is not a good idea to continue blogging.

If your readers can tell you are having fun while providing good content they will become permanent readers.

How To Find Free Advertising Vehicles That Work

I get this question a lot. Can you tell me great sites to advertise on for free (or very little) money? In the early days of my home business career I followed other peoples advice and advertised on the free and low cost ad sites they recommended.

Frankly, most sources, especially from popular teachers that have training sites, are useless. These free advertising sites may have been great sources when the teachers found them, but after thousands of their pupils started advertising on them as well, (often promoting the same opportunity) theyre pretty much useless.

The free advertising sites on how2succeedonline.net are much fresher since I am constantly searching for new ones that have enough traffic to deliver good results like CraigsList, Ablewise, Myspace, You Tube, Adpost, Squidoo, Backpage, Ideamarketers and more.

Today however, I will teach you a technique that I use to find free advertising sites that havent been so beat up with overuse. In essence, Im going to show you how to fish for free advertising vehicles that will give you a constant stream of fresh, new advertising venues with less competition.

This is so simple it will blow your mindwhich is, of course, true of many of the most successful techniques. By the way, I found many of my favorite ad sites this way!

Lets start by typing in Business Opportunity into Google Search or any search engine you prefer. You can use the keywords that you currently use to promote your business (i.e. make money online, Home Based Business, etc.). You can even do a search for the keyword of the opportunity you represent like EDC Gold PWF or 1Step System, etc.

Then I look for optimized search results that appear on the left side of the page (not the pay per click part of the page). As I go down the page, I look for ads that are part of forums or ad sites. Youll find several ads on the top three pages that are ad-posting on third party sites offering advertising vs. company owned or opportunity sites that just talk about their product, service or opportunity. Many of these sites offer free or low cost advertising. And best of all, Google has found these sites and elevated their index (so they appear on pages 1-3 of the search results), even in highly competitive areas where popular keywords are used.

Youll find more quality sites than you know what to do with, just with the use of a few keywords.

Next, place your ads on several of these sites. To maximize your response, make sure your ad is keyword dense (lots of keywords repeated throughout the text of the ad). If you do, not only will you benefit from the traffic that advertising site produces, but youll also benefit from the very high listing on Google and other search engines, which will boost your traffic by possibly hundred fold.

Another technique you can try is typing the words Free Advertising Help into Google. Its not as good as my first recommendation, but still better that joining other team members and advertising on the same pages being used by thousands of direct competitors.

On one of the next articles Ill talk about is how to super charge your ad for search optimizationyoull be amazed.

Top Tips On Curb Appeal

There cant be anybody left in the western world who doesnt know the tips of the trade when it comes to interior design. It is almost impossible to ignore the glut of TV shows, magazine features and newspaper articles all telling us how to make the most of our homes.

Who doesnt know by now that the smell of baking bread, light and airy rooms and neutral colours all help sell a home, but what about the exterior of your property? Its known as curb appeal and if you dont have it, heres how you get it.

Its in the detail

The accoutrements or the bells and whistles on your property can help set it apart from your neighbours. Curb appeal is easy to get with a few simple changes.

A new front door or even simply painting your front door an attractive, rich colour can help add a sense of distinction and class.

Window boxes or shrubs. A window box can add colour and life and implies a well-cared for home. Shrubs can be style statements too, and plants generally turn a house into a home.

A house name sign can add character, charm and personality to a home.

Change old, tired outdoor light fittings for a modern stylish or antique reproduction.

Tidy up any gardens, or if you can afford it, re-design or landscape your front gardens.

Add a fresh coat of paint to window frames too it can make a house look fresh and clean. But do make sure the windows are clean too, so everything sparkles.

Its a common known fact that at interviews, employers are said to make their minds up in the first 30 seconds when you walk through the door. First impressions count for everything, and experts have said that property buyers form their opinion of a house within just 15 seconds.

It isnt just the details on the front of your home that you need to consider.

Home Front

Make sure the street is as presentable too and is free of litter or debris. Get the sweeping brush out!

Clear any weeds, and tidy up in general.

If you have a big wheelie rubbish bin try and move it somewhere discreet.

If you have a rusty old fence, give it a lick of paint. Dont let a squeaky gate or bit of rust put off your buyer.

If your driveway is seriously worn-looking, consider resealing it.

The state of your roof will signify the state of your property in general ensure any loose or missing tiles are corrected.

Some studies imply that curb appeal can increase the value of your home and certainly help clinch a sale. First impressions last. The fact that our homes are so important to our sense of self and our status in society means emotional bonds can be made as soon as you see the front door. So make sure its a good, sturdy, stylish front door!

An Itinterary for an Educational Field Trip to New York City

When student travel tours are scheduled for New York City, the main item on the itinerary is art and culture, with some standard points of interest, like The Statue of Liberty and Times Square, included. Here is a descriptive sample itinerary for a New York City student field trip, which balances art and cultural highlights with visits to interesting destinations in Manhattan.

Always use a professional educational travel consultant when planning a trip to New York City. Certified tour guides must be used in New York City, and motor coach drivers must be well versed in street layouts and traffic patterns. An educational travel consultant will select qualified individuals to work with an educational tour. The goal of educational travel is to deliver the highest quality learning experience to the group, and to keep the student travel tour on schedule.

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

Student travel tours planned in advance can easily complement classroom activities. Modern Teachers is a MoMA program that allows educators to customize educational tours of the Museum. Working closely with materials on MoMAs website http://www.moma.org/modernteachers/, an educator can construct a lesson plan to coincide with the field trip to MoMA. This exciting tool for educators is complemented by video lessons on the worlds greatest artists. With advance notice, educational tour groups can visit MoMA with a docent.

Metropolitan Art Museum

At the Metropolitan Art Museum, an emphasis on the classics benefit the student travel group, and give them a well rounded approach to art history. The brand new Greek and Roman galleries offer glimpses into the world of the ancients with 5,200 pieces from the permanent collection now available for public viewing. The Cloisters is located at Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan and recently reopened in 2006. It represents the world of medieval art and architecture. Other exhibits, lectures, and special programs are also available to student tour groups. Have an educational travel professional schedule a guided student tour for the Met in advance.

A Student Tour of the Empire State Building

Have a qualified educational tour consultant schedule a group tour of the Empire State Building in New York City. The Empire State Building was constructed in 1930, during the beginning of the great depression, greatly reducing building costs. The 86th Floor Observatory offers a commanding view of Manhattan and has been the site of filming Sleepless in Seattle and An Affair to Remember. The building has a unique history surrounding its construction. The impetus for building the Empire State Building was a contest between Walter Chrysler (Chrysler Corporation) and John Jakob Raskob (General Motors) to see who could build the tallest skyscraper.

Guided Tour of Manhattan

Half-day student tours of Manhattan usually begin at Central Park, the northernmost point in Manhattan, and end to Battery Park, the Southernmost point. The tour covers some major points of interest in Manhattan such as Central Park, Times Square, Soho, City Hall, Wall Street, The Statue of Liberty, and much more. In addition to seeing points of interest, student tour groups will also learn about the artistic and commercial history of Manhattan on this tour.

Educational Tours: See a Broadway Musical While in New York City

Almost every student travel group wants to experience at least one Broadway Musical while in New York City. Tickets for popular shows need to be procured in advance by a student travel company. Wicked, Chicago, and a Chorus Line are popular Broadway musicals appropriate for student travel groups. Off Broadway productions are also available. Book student travel group tickets in advance through a qualified educational travel company to obtain student seating together and receive the best price per ticket.

An educational field trip to New York City can offer the student the travel opportunity of a lifetime. This is only one sample itinerary of a student tour of New York City. There are many other variations of student travel tours to New York. With clear objectives in mind and proper planning, a more customized educational tour of New York City can easily be created. The Onion
The Spread Firefox

Do these above mentioned names make any sense for you? Well, they are all the names of high-traffic websites.but apart from that?

Well, they are all bound by a common threadthey all use Drupal as their web application framework or blogging engine.

So what Drupal actually is?
Drupal is a software package that is

The background

The credit for writing this software---todays most popular tool for building online communities goes to Dries Buytaert. The name of the software has significance; the word Drupal has its origin in the Dutch word, druppel or Drop. Now Drop in Dutch also stands for Village or community. So the community aspect of the software has always been emphasized. However, others try to establish a link with the name of now defunct Drop.org website---the codes of which had a direct influence on the coding of Drupal.

What it can do for you

The latest version (Drupal 5.1) released in the early 2007 comes with the enhanced feature of easy-to-use web installer. The wide ranging Drupal websites

Powered with a wide range of features, Drupal can support different types of website ranging from traditional blogs to Social Networking sites and Intranet applications to E-commerce applications.

On your way to create a community based website or a community driven portal?

Or are you up to introducing a resource directory or an Aficionado site?

How Can You Help Your Unborn Baby Develop

Research has shown that babies in their mom's womb can hear sounds from the environment, and it is widely believed that the baby is sensitive to their environment - inside and outside of their mother's womb. It is widely believed that the mother's moods and activities can affect the unborn baby (I use the term baby instead of fetus, it is my personal preference.)

It is a good idea for an expectant mother to arrange for a peaceful and happy environment. Luckily, it is quite common for this time of a woman's life to be the most happy time in life. By no means do I want to convey that I recommend for the mother to be inactive. Activity is great (as long as there is no physical condition that dictates otherwise). However, I definitely recommend engaging in activities that bring joy and enjoyment.

I have heard stories from mothers who noticed a significant change in the amount of movement they have felt when a very loud and fast music was played. My mother told me this funny story about the time when she was pregnant with my sister and myself (we are twins). She went to the movies, and a very loud, active music was played. We have become so active in her belly, that she had to get up and leave the theater, it was impossible for her to sit and watch the movie.

It is advisable to listen to quiet, peaceful music. Classical music is beneficial. It is believed that listening to classical music is beneficial for the development of children in general, before they are born and after.

We can take advantage of the fact that the baby can hear us, and talk to the baby often. What would you say to a newborn? We already know that talking to a newborn is very beneficial for it's development. Anything that you would say to a newborn you can say to your unborn baby. You can read it a story, you can sing it a song. You can express your love and feelings. Talk to your baby very lovingly every day.

One thing that an expectant mother can do, and I believe to be very beneficial to an unborn baby, is swimming. This is beneficial to the mother, as well as the baby. The mother will be in excellent physical condition during her pregnancy and for the delivery. Swimming takes some weight off the spine, and gives a much welcome relief to the back and front muscles. (As you know, things weigh differently in the water.) It strengthens the mother's lungs, and increases the amount of oxygen supply to all organs, including, of course, the womb and placenta. Therefore, the baby, too, gets a fresh and increased supply of oxygen. This is beneficial to the general development of the baby, and specifically the baby's brain. Before you start swimming, ask your doctor for permission. Make sure that you are swimming in a safe environment, and that there are other people around.

Everything that is beneficial to the mother, is also beneficial to the baby. Another thing that I believe to be great for mom and baby, is Yoga. There are special Yoga classes for expectant mothers, and if you can - find one that is convenient for you. There are also many Yoga videotapes available. Try to find one that is specifically designed for expectant mothers. Before you start a Yoga program, it is advisable to get an OK from your doctor.

Why Do People Need Web Sites?

Summary: This article is about sites creation as nowadays it is of a great request over the Internet. Sites creation lies not only in the creation of web pages design but also all the content and management is included. The development of a web site starts from the detail studying of the clients involvement, his scope of ability, improvement of his goals.

Why do people need Web Sites?

Nowadays, Web design is of a great request over the Internet. Web design lies not only in the creation of web pages but also all the content and management is included.

This process includes an entire complex of tasks and objectives set before the team, consisting of a web designer, programmer, maker-up, optimizer and other specialists, and depends on the complexity and the specificity of the site. The development of a web site starts from the detail studying of the clients involvement, his scope of ability, improvement of his goals.

But it doesnt mean that a consumers role is petty here. No, in no way! A client, in his turn, must plainly decide for himself what he wants people to see on his future site, in order, to have solid and authoritative web page and capture the visitors attention.

If the customer does in such a way it will be in a great help for the web designer and the rest of the team. Cooperation and joining forces together are very important elements here, with an eye to avoid misunderstanding.

Then the conception and technical tasks of the site are worked out on the basis of the received information from the client.

The procedure requires a creative approach as well. The idea of the web site must be promptly thought over: not so much, but with zest! Not to overdo with the ideas is key, because when a person enters the site, he needs to find first of all, what he is interested in.

People create web sites on different purposes: for big businesses, to sell or buy something, to advertise, for entertainment and chat, or just for themselves. The clients can host their sites on the free or paid servers as well. The difference between them, of course exists, while paid servers are more reliable and require fee (per month or year). But if a person is just a beginner in the sphere of web design and wants to have his own site he can make an attempt to allocate it on the free server. Though, here again, mostly, depends on the tasks and involvement of the client.

Having a web site is not so much the question of prestige as one more possibility to announce and advertise the business today. Many companies develop themselves with the help of web design: earn money, upgrade their image; it is a great advantage to find new partners and to draw the clients attention and develop the business.

Web sites are not only for the big businesses. Everybody, who has some ideas and wants to share them with others, in order to approve himself or something like that, can get a place on a free server.

Web site is a small miracle in the Internet, which is targeted on the presentation of various information.

Have Fun With Vinyl Railings

Making vinyl railing is fun. All that you require is just a hacksaw, a screwdriver, glue, (and perhaps some practice) and you can start making your own porch railings like a pro.

Long Lasting Vinyl Porch Railings

Wooden porch railing is slowly being replaced by Vinyl railings since it has many advantages over wood railings. The major advantages are

The vinyl porch railings are long lasting. They last longer than wood railings

They are virtually maintenance free. The painting required for wooden railings is not required for the vinyl railings. (You have additional time for your golf. No more of paint the fencing and then only you can go for golf type of order from the lady of house)

The vinyl railings look good for long time if you have selected the material in a proper way.

It is ideal material for DIY work. Just cut and paste work is involved, with minimal skills you can build good looking railing systems for your porch

It is virtually unaffected by whether. Sunlight snow, rain does not mar the looks if you have selected the material properly.

How To Erect Vinyl Porch Railings

The porch railings systems are available in market today. You can choose the color combinations you like and bring the material and start working on it. The speed with which you can do the work will amaze you. However, you must follow certain rules for making a good-looking Vinyl porch railing.

Make a plan for railing. Count the number of posts you will require for your railing system. Keep a distance of about 6 feet between each post so that it will have strength and will not give way when you lean on it.

Select a coloring system for you railing system. Vinyl porch railing can be given the color of your choice just by selection of material. If it is possible, you can make a colored sketch your self on your computer and see how the railings will look like.

You can select different colors for the top railing, the stand post, and the bottom support. You can also select a different color for the center rail.

Make your purchases from the same store and from the same manufacturer. That way you not only save, but also make sure that everything fits together. Remember loose fitting system cannot make a good railing

Now you can start working on railings. Follow the simple procedure given below.

1.Working with your Vinyl porch railing starts with marking the post. The accuracy with which you mark the posts determines the look of you railing systems and therefore you should take great care in marking the posts.

2.The verticals posts, the top rail, and the middle rail can now be made. Make the entire railing on the ground before erecting and fixing it in the bottom posts. Once you erect and fix the verticals, it might be impossible for you to work on them later on.

3.Work on flat ground and complete one side or at least the maximum portion of the side. This way you will make sure that you do your work with minimum help from outside and with minimum efforts.

4.When the entire side is complete, you can start gluing them to the bottom posts. You might require some help here as it might be impossible to lift the railing and fix it in position. Your family members or friends can help you.

So you can erect the vinyl porch railings with minimum efforts and go for your golf routine or fishing expeditions.

The Stress Of Becoming A Dad

One of my early childhood memories is the description my mother's best friend and my father's cousin revealed regarding my father's reaction when I was born. Sharing a very close relationship with my father and him being among the kindest and toughest people I have encountered (a unique combination I must admit) I was shocked to hear that the day his first child was born he felt that his life has changed forever. In fact, my father is not the only man that experienced post-birth stress. Millions of fathers have experienced the feeling my father had when my mother's best friend entered the room to announce that he was the proud father of a healthy daughter. At the moment the exciting news were revealed my father turned towards the window of the clinic were my mother has just given birth to me and replied with a calm voice "Now nothing will ever be the same."

Stress can be caused from a variety of factors and most frequently these have to do with work-related issues and family or economic problems. But carrying your first child back home from the hospital and realizing that you are now responsible for another human being's life, can be a tremendous shock men are not always capable of handling.

My father, like million other soon-to-be-parents, felt that his life-the life he has been experiencing up until that moment-was about to change dramatically and he was the only one of the responsible parties for this newborn baby that kept him awake during the night because of the crying. But, as days and months passed by, my father changed his views and saw that having a baby in the house was an amazing experience he now wants me to have at some point in my life.

Although he claims that he immediately realized the burden he had to carry for the rest of his life, he does not remember being stressed or annoyed. Even when his cousin teases him for his not so exciting reaction that day, he still supports that the only reason he was not jumping up and down from joy was the fact that he was awake all night waiting for my mother to deliver their baby into this world.

After having discussed with friends how it feels to suddenly' become a father, since many of my friends that are couples are about to get married or have already given birth to their first child, I realized that becoming a parent is as stressful for a man as it is for a woman. Although the experience is totally different, men are extremely sensitive to such life-changing news, not because they will loose their freedom or peace, but mainly because they feel responsible probably for the first time in their lives. While women are usually trained' to take care of others, men-especially in my home country-possess a certain independence which they do not wish to loose for the sake of anybody. Thus, deciding to become a parent and be the responsible' or wise' member of the family, is usually a huge shock that takes men by surprise and leaves them breathless when they gaze their child's eyes for the first time.

Dreaming Of A Web Business? Do You Have What It Takes?

After many months of worrying, searching, and procrastinating you finally decide to take the plunge. Are you ready for this?

Heres what I found you absolutely need to start and run a successful small business on the Web.

Deceptively Simple

If you are reading this, you can obviously navigate on the Web. You also have a more than passing interest for the subject clearly stated in the title of this article.

Furthermore, I would be willing to bet that you can already use your personal computer to create written documents, such as emails, or a more elaborate document, such as your personal resume (curriculum vitae).

You may even be using your computer to do your budget, for all I know.

Intuitively, you know you will need a Web site to market your Web business. You believe that you should know something about how to build a Web site that will serve the purposes of the small business you are planning to start.

This is where most people hesitate, or even drop the idea of a business on the Web. They think they need to hire expensive web site creators, and Web designers, to do what they think they cannot achieve.

Some forge on blindly and fall for the many easy solutions that are constantly being offered on the Web. Try our easy to use free templates, and just fill in the blanks. Presto! You have a Web site! Need content? No problem! Just subscribe to our free articles blahblahblah.

Yeah! Sure! But, will your Web site be a suitable marketing instrument for your business? Will it be an extension of yourself? Will it represent you, or someone elses efforts?

How are you going to be able to tell? You know (deep down) that you ignore practically everything about how to use the Web technologies to

Validate your business idea,
Research the best way to exploit it to its maximum potential,
And ensure the success of your small business.

The get rich quick, its easy (GRQ) crowd remain conspicuously silent on these vital issues!

Keep your eyes and critical mind open!

Be on the constant lookout for openly revealed answers that ring true and logical to you. Stay away from secret recipes. Use your own judgment to determine where the true solution lies. You have more common sense than you think. Dont be afraid to use it! Its in you best interest to exercise due diligence.

Marketing

You need to know the basic marketing techniques and strategies for the Web. They are very different from the ones you would successfully use on land! Seek competent advice on this.

Remember! The most reliable advice need not be the most expensive!

Look for reputable, knowledgeable people who have a vested interest in your success. They will want you to succeed because your success will be contributing to their success. These experts work for themselves as well as for you. Therefore, they do not charge extra for the privilege of contributing to your endeavor, and making your efforts worthwhile. It will be worth their while too, in the long run. They know it. So should you.

Guarantees?

Look for the guarantee behind the GRQ schemes. You will find none, of course.

If you dont believe you need a guarantee, think again! You are new to this business of starting a Web business. You a running the risk of failing, without appropriate and reliable help and support. You stand to lose your desire, perhaps forever! That would be a sorry mistake to make.

Keep searching until you find a solution provider that will openly guarantee results, if you follow their plan or your money back!. You will know, then, that you will have found a solution worth looking into seriously.

You just have to use your brain, common sense, and your motivation to keep looking further, below the surface (apparently easy solutions).

Work

You will have to work at it. That should not come as a surprise. You did not really believe that its possible to build a successful business without you contributing some level of effort, did you?

Just make sure your efforts are well supported by reliable expert guidance, and everything will turn out just fine given time, and your active participation, of course! You dont have to become one the many misguided start-ups that fail miserably, because they failed to do their homework!

You will have to be strong to resist the many temptations of promised easy way outs! Because, thats all they are. An easy way out of business!

Before you know it, time will have flashed by, and you will end up with a truly viable business. Your determined efforts will be rewarded, in more ways than one.

Drive

If you read somewhere that it takes passion to build a business, be it on the Web or elsewhere, believe it!

When you go to bed at night, and cant wait to get up in the morning to run your business, thats when you are well on your way toward a rewarding outcome.

Money?

You are considering a business on the Web. It does not require much money to start one. You will not be buying an existing one, nor will you be buying into one.

You will be building your Web business from scratch. It can even be done on a shoestring, if all your will be offering your clientele is your knowledge, your know-how, or your services. You are already warehousing that in your brain, for free!

You already have a computer, and an internet connection. No extra expenses there.

Most people will think, at this stage, that all they need next is a Web host for their business Web site. Dont make the same mistake!

You will need more than a Web hosting company. As I explained above, you will need the company of Web marketing experts to guide you through the first critical steps toward building a successful Web business, not just a Web site!

A few (rare) Web hosting firms will provide all the hand holding help you will need as part of the basic (not extra) services you will be paying for. They do it because they want to keep your business.

They want to be able to show you off as yet another success story to which they dutifully, and respectfully contributed.

My recommendation

Keep looking. Keep your eyes open for sharks. Keep a critical mind on full alert to distinguish between fools gold and the real stuff. Keep believing in your idea. Keep working at it. Above all, keep it real.

Keep your efforts honest. Do not try to fool yourself. You will be rewarded in spades!

Eventually, you will realize that you had what it takes, after all.

Fixing Up That Old Antique Crib For A New Baby

There is something special about using the same crib that you slept in for your own baby. Family heirlooms are often special and hold many fond memories, so its exciting to think about using them for your own child. When it comes to wooden cribs its a great idea to fix them up before your baby sleeps their first night in that wonderful little bed.

Its important to note before you move forward in fixing up that old wooden crib that safety should be job number one. Some older cribs may not pass the current guild lines for infant safety and a thorough inspection of the crib should be done before you even being. According to the Nation Safety Counsel the slats should be no more than 2 3/8 inches apart and the corner posts should be no higher than 1/16th of an inch. Also, there should be no design work or cutouts in the headboard or footboard. If the mattress is more than 5 years old its a good bet that it doesnt meet current safety guild lines and should be thrown out. The mattress should be firm and tight fitting such that the child cannot get under it or roll over on their stomach and not be able to brief which is extremely dangerous. For more details on the safety standards for cribs, refer to the National Safety Counsels website.

Now if you have given the crib a good once over and it passes NSCs safety standards then lets get started. First you need to check the sturdiness of the crib. Often family antiques like these can be stored in an out of the way place such as the garage and or attic exposing them to high heat conditions. The joints in older cribs where put together with a type of glue called bull glue. Great for its time, this type of blue does not hold up well in long term high heat conditions so the joins may have become lose while in storage. With the crib placed firmly on the floor and against a strong wall place both hands on the top rail of the crib closest to you. Putting a little of your own weight down on the crib turn it slightly to the left and right. It may creak just a little, but it should not give way. This technique will usually expose and lose joints by popping them out. If the crib was manufactured past 1985 there is a possibility that the joint wont pop out, but remain dangerously lose. This is because some current manufactures of wooden cribs use inexpensive glue and shoot a brad nail through each joint. The glue over time and exposure to heat will leave a dusty film in the joint with only the brad nail holding it together. Another important location that should not be skipped is the slats on both sides of the crib. Little hands grab and twist on them a great deal. Every one of those joints on the crib should be inspected for firmness and repaired.

Once inspection and repair is completed its time to brighten up your babies future bed. If you want to keep the crib looking like it did when you were a baby, there are some very simple steps to make it look brand new, without damaging the antique quality. Many older wooden cribs will reflect the more popular color of there day. This can vary some what in the year and style with which they were built, but the most important part is keeping the patina of the aged wood. Most finishes on cribs dull over time. This is a natural part in the aging of the finish.

To get your babies bed looking great I would suggest rubbing compound. Now there are many types of rubbing compound made for wood finishes but I would not suggest them. A rubbing compound is usually a liquid or gel suspension of an abrasive particulate and a mild solvent or a wax that is kept in a liquid form by the solvent. The particulate acts as a super fine sand paper that when used properly can put a nice shine on hardened finished surfaces. The use of rubbing compound is a simple and affective way to brighten up the dull finish on that antique crib without removing the finish or wonderful wood color below. I have found rubbing compounds that are designed for wood have a large amount of wax in the suspension. This type of wax can be very difficult to get off or bring to a shine, and I dont like to work hard I like to work smart. The first can of wood rubbing compound I purchased was used twice and them promptly thrown away. For the best results a car rubbing compound should be used to buff up your babys crib. This style of rubbing compound has little or no wax in it making clean up a breeze. I would suggest a 2000 grit compound which can be found at almost any car supply shop, but I usually get mine from Auto body wholesalers. They simply have the best range of grit. After all my years of experience, its the 2000 grit that leaves the cleanest shine, with out risk of actually rubbing the finish right off. High grit choices have the potential of rubbing through the finish to the wood. If this happens you run the risk of leaving the piece without the protective coating of the finish and rubbing away the stain thus altering the woods beautiful even color.

To apply the compound use a soft cotton cloth. Place a small amount onto your cloth and rub evenly over a small area. Once you have a small portion of the surface covered in a light haze, being to rub with more force over the same area. As you apply force the compound will begin to haze up and only moments later it will begin to roll up and fall way leaving this brilliant shine below. Again, use small portions poured onto your cloth for I have found much faster and cleaner results with multiple applications to the rag instead of a large amount applied all over the surface of the crib. When you have reworked your entire surface wipe down the piece with a mixture of three parts water and one part common vinegar. This will remove any remaining dirt and rubbing compound leaving your babys bed shiny, clean and ready for use. As with any suggestion please do a test spot on the finish were it would not be seen such that you will know your getting the results you want.

Once you have inspected for safety, repaired lose or broken joints and polished up the finish your families heirloom will be ready for your babies first night of sleep. Look for more of my articles here and at http://aa-baby-furniture.com. I speak more about how to do those joint repairs yourself, how to strip and refinish your babys furniture and if youre not that type of person how to find the right type of furniture repair and refinisher shop.

The Quickest Way I Know To Get Global Resorts Network Leads

Okay, Nathan, I've got my Global Resorts Network business started, now how to I get quality leads?

Here is the short answer to that question:

Generate them yourself.

Now I can just hear somebody sitting there saying to themselves...

"But, Nathan I don't know how."

Your right... If you already knew how to generate good quality leads yourself than you probably wouldn't be asking that would you?

Now for the more detail version...

If your brand new in this business or industry than you may feel that you do not have the time to just 'dive in' to the lead generation business.

Well, The fact is, it's a skill every business owner should know and I couldn't recommend it any more.

There are numerous ways to generate leads and I'll go though a couple of them here.

Disclaimer: The following methods are what I consider big investment/low yield activities.

- Dropping sizzle business cards in shopping center parking lots.
- Gathering business cards posted on boards and cold calling the person.
- Cold calling people from the phone book.
- Cold calling genealogy lists.
- Buying and calling opportunity leads for $8+ each.
- Putting my website address on my car's doors with a magnetic strip.
- Prospecting on job sites like Monster or Craig's list.
- Sending fliers to professional recruiters.
- Contacting doctors, chiropractors and realtors.
- Going door to door.

Method 1: And my personal favorite. Use the power of the world wide web to drive traffic to an internet marketing system that attracts your ideal prospect. It's call 'target marketing'.

Method 2: Use offline advertising to drive targeted traffic to your website or to a phone system designed to automatically collect your prospects information for you. You know what's wonderful... I've went ahead and 'bit the bullet' for my personal team and invested my time and money to learn the skills in methods one and two so that you don't have to right now. My personal team members have access to world renowned marketing advice, lead generation tools and systems that are designed to have your prospects calling you for more information.

Method 3: If your too lazy to learn these skills yourself or you are new to this industry and need to develop your phone skills or if you just don't have the time and need to start making an income right now then this is the best option for you...

Purchase leads from a qualified, well known, lead vendor. One that also provides training, support, and an opportunity to quickly recoup your investment. Finding a good leads source is like shopping for a used car. Everyone says they have the best leads, for the best price possible, but you never really know until you get on the road...

Here is what you need to know: There is no magical lead source that will determine your success or failure in network marketing or Global Resorts Network for that matter.

A good lead source will only ENHANCE the EFFICIENCY of someone who already knows how to work leads properly. Leader's Club is the best lead source I've found for this purpose. If you're not getting the results you would like from working leads, then stay tuned to learn how to become a recruiting dynamo using leads from ANY source...

I've used leads from Cutting Edge, Leaders Club, MLMLeads.com and many others.

The best leads out there are the one's you generate yourself through your own advertising because you have control over message and demographic. This is VERY hard to do in a cost effective manner until you learn how to market properly, so if you must rely on a 3rd party vendor, use the one I mentioned above.

The trick is finding the right lead for the right type of approach.

More on methods 1 and 2 in upcoming articles.

Starting Up A Company At A Lower Cost By Buying Used

Just a little background about myself. I have been a freelance court reporter for over 25 years. I have owned both large and small businesses, including a large freelance court reporting firm in Philadelphia, a small court reporting firm in Anchorage, Alaska and several typing and marketing businesses throughout the country.

During the time that I owned my businesses, I have tried to find ways to keep costs to a minimum in all of my businesses. My favorite saying is "Why would I want to pay extra for that when I can use that money to buy myself something nice for home?"

There are several ways to buy new items for your business. First, you have to figure out how up-to-date you need the item to be. Why buy the newest computer on the market if its only function is going to be to print out billing statements? Maybe you can still work with a computer from two to five years previously?

I once bought a computer for $25.00 off of E-bay that works with my court reporting program. I also bought several Computerized shorthand machines that saved me spending over $4,000 apiece for new ones. The used machines I bought for between $290 and $800 and were used for multiple years by both me and the court reporters working for me. (One I bought from a pawnshop for $500 and one of the court reporters working for me immediately paid me $1,200 for it. It was worth a lot more, but she was about to spend around $4,200 for a new one when I came across the deal.)

Another resource is trade magazines. A lot of times when somebody has something they tried to use for work and it wasn't compatible, they will sell it fairly inexpensively to get it off of their hands. I have purchased many used cassette transcription machines for between $25 and $50, when new they would cost several hundred. I have bought them off of e-bay, court reporting magazines (they usually have a classified ad section of "for sale" items."

A good on-line resource is Craigslist. You can seem to find almost anything on there.

For my Shaklee business, I have found quite a few sales aids much cheaper than if I were to buy them direct. I have bought four different Airsource 3000 air purifiers for between $50 and $200 off of E-bay. They normally go for over $700 at retail price and I have been able to use them as sales aids to sell new ones. My sales profit on the new ones are a lot more than I am paying for these used machines and usually all that I need to do to sell one is to place a machine in somebody's home and the machine does the sale. Of course, if I had to pay full price for each one, I would have to sell many more to make a profit.

Another thing I have purchased for my Shaklee business are used audio tapes and sales brochures. That can run into a lot of money if you buy them new, but there are always people willing to give them away from practically nothing if they get out of the business or overstock on the sales materials. I save thousands a year in advertising costs this way.

I have always bought used cars. You can get a great deal on a used car (I drive taxi part-time as well and put too many miles on a car to buy it new.) I recently wrote a book called Cab Driving as a Second Career for Fun and Profit telling about the adventures I have had driving taxi at night here in the Twin Cities. (The computer I wrote the book on was less than $50.00).

In summary, almost any business you have can use a few corners cut. Just make sure that you don't cut them too far. Get what you need and, maybe, just a little more.

Starbucks Is My Friend! How Starbucks Has Changed My Life

I am self-employed and the mother of a newborn. What does this mean? I am at Starbucks every single day. Multiple times each day. Sometimes for hours each day.

Anti-consumerism aficionados beware: Starbucks, that beacon of light in an otherwise mind-blowing, mind-boggling, or mind-numbing day (all pertinent to being an entrepreneur and mother), has made my life better.

Take a look at the clientele next time you enter its warm, welcoming, rust-toned environment midday. Yes, there are those who run in and out, rushing back to their European-made cars parked illegally across the street. But who are the ones lounging happily in the plush chairs, sipping their grande, half-caf, no foam, extra hot, soy cinnamon dolce lattes? Mothers. Most often breastfeeding with $1000 strollers in tow. And the self-employed: realtors, entrepreneurs, a certain loud-mouth rental property owner (who happens to be my uncle). Who else can sit for 3 hours at a time, reading trashy magazines, flipping the newspaper to the bikini girl at back, and blackberrying the office admin staff?

Now, I am not one of the above. For one thing, I wanted one of those $1000 strollers, but my husband is too cheap. And two, my cell phone is 6 years old. But I do love trashy magazines

Seriously though, I recently moved back to my hometown from a much more metropolitan city, and it actually occurred to me that I would not have been able to make that move if Starbucks hadnt infiltrated the city since I left a few years ago. Never mind the great lure of grandparents for my children, it was simply unfathomable to consider returning to a place void of the forest green circle.

There is nothing I love more than whiling away the afternoon at my computer hard at work, playing with child, or trekking around town, with that cream-colored cardboard cup of love at my side. I dont even order a fancy drink. Tall Bold, thank you very much.

In fact, I think my newfound biceps are not due to lugging my baby around, but rather to holding that caffeine-filled cup in my hand for the duration of my 5-mile walk every morning. It just isnt exercise if Cafe Verona doesnt cross my lips every half-minute, while I discuss with my sister the merits of low-fat versus no-fat.

Sometimes, I even save said coffee cup after the walk, once emptied. Ill actually refill it with my bland grocery store blend at home, so I can have some degree of imitation until my next fix. Honestly, just getting through a conference call requires my caffeine friend on most days.

Really though, at the end of the day, its whatever makes you happy. And if that little cup of joe and perhaps a butter-filled treat - gets me through it, so be it.

Now if only my toddler would stop screaming num num every time we drive by said establishment

Protect Yourself with a Home Inspection

Home inspection plays a very important role in the real estate process. When you are buying or selling a home, you rely on a home inspector to provide an accurate and reliable inspection of a property. A home inspector will tell you about the condition of the home and help you avoid buying a home that needs major repairs. It is the perfect way to get an in-depth and impartial opinion of your next home before you buy it.

What to Expect

Typically, you will hire a home inspector either immediately before an offer is made on a home or as a contingency to a sale. Additionally, home inspections are ideal if you want to evaluate your home's condition or diagnose potential problems before they become serious issues.

Home inspectors perform the following duties:

-Evaluate the physical condition of a property, including the structure, construction and mechanical systems.

-Identify the items that should be repaired or replaced.

-Estimate the remaining useful life of the major systems (such as electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning), equipment, structure, and finishes.

Although inspections are primarily visual, inspectors may use tape measures, survey instruments, metering devices, and other equipment, such as concrete strength measurers, to aid in their inspection. They keep a log of their work, take photographs, and file a formal report.

The inspection usually takes two or three hours (depending on the age and size of the home). You should be present so you can ask questions and learn about areas that need additional work. All of the findings will be presented in a formal report that details the condition of the home.

A Close Look

The main purpose of the home inspector is to provide an objective viewpoint on the condition of a specific home at the time of inspection. The inspector does not evaluate the cost or value of the property, but provides a close examination of the following:

Structural Components: Foundations, floors and walls.

Exterior Components: Siding paint, windows, decks, garage doors, etc.

Roofing: Coverings, flashings, chimneys, etc.

Plumbing: Piping, fixtures, faucets, water heating and fuel storage systems, etc.

Electrical: Wiring, main service panels, conductors, switches, receptacles, etc.

Heating: Equipment, safety controls, distribution systems, chimneys, etc.

Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps: Cooling and air-handling equipment, controls and ducting, etc.

Interior: Partitions, ceilings, floors, railings, doors and windows, etc.

Insulation and Ventilation: Attics, walls, floors, foundations, kitchen and bathrooms, etc.

They will additionally perform the following services (sometimes for an extra fee): mold sampling, radon testing, asbestos evaluation, pests/wood destroying organisms, carbon monoxide testing, lead testing, and more. These services are not always available.

Make sure to protect your investment. Get a home inspection before you buy your next home!

Chore Charts Don't Work

Have you ever tried to improve something around your home using a chore chart or similar device?

For example, have you ever gotten exasperated at one (or all) of your children for not helping out around the house and decided to post a chore schedule to remedy the situation?

And did that scenario work out for you?

If you're like many, many parents, the answer is a loud "NO". For a few of you, the answer is a firm "yes."

What's the difference?

The difference lies in understanding where the power is. The power, in this case, is not in the chore chart. Chore charts are just pieces of paper. All by themselves, they don't work. They are only a simple tool. The power is in knowing how to use the tool.

Let me offer an example to help make this whole idea clearer for you.

Let's say you decided to build a house. You assembled your tools. Hammers, screwdrivers, nails, wood, etc. You carefully organized your tools and showed your work crew where to find the tools. You said firmly, "Now, I expect our new house to be done by the time I get back from work."

You left. Your workers looked at each other. One of them asked "anyone know how to build a house?" No one answered THAT question, but there was a brief discussion how the boss (mom or dad) doesn't get it (again). Everyone left to pursue their own interests.

End result: no house built. Boss mad. Workers frustrated and apathetic.

Hmmm.

Now let's put power in that scenario.

Again, you decide to build a house. You assemble and organize your tools. But this time you understand you've just gotten started.

You talk to your workers. You tell them they're going to build a house and you're going to show them how. It will be work, but it will be a rewarding process, too.

You set up a reasonable training schedule. You work together to create a sense of teamwork. Progress is slow, but steady and real.

You point out how to better use the tools to your workers. They develop a level of skill with the tools. They also develop a sense of pride in their accomplishment. You reward them. Everyone celebrates. The house still has a ways to go, but it's starting to look like a real house.

People are working together. No nagging is necessary and fussing is at a minimum. Workers feel free to bring their input to the process, adjustments are made to the schedule and new tools are brought on board when necessary.

Hmmm.

Successfully using chore charts in your home is very similar. Chore charts never work by themselves, but they almost always work when combined with the proper training and support. They are a fine tool for teaching yourself and your family the merits of personal responsibility, self-discipline, and teamwork. Faith Is Not Something You Work On, Or Work Up!

When we get to know Christ, as is our privilege to know Him, our lives will be lives of continual obedience.

Many people are confused as to the relationship between faith and works? Just how is one saved? "Believe in Jesus" is the common response. But how does one "believe" in Jesus? Is this an act of sheer spiritual willpower? Do you just force yourself to believe?

I remember asking the question, "What does one do to believe in Jesus?" I was told in reply, "Give your heart to Jesus." "How do I give my heart to Jesus," I asked. "Come to the foot of the cross," was the response.

Frustrated with the metaphors, I asked "How do I come to the foot of the cross?" The circular answer was, "Give your heart to Jesus."

I am an engineer and like things concretely defined. Answering my questions with metaphors, much less a circle of metaphors, frustrates me to no end.

So, finally, after years thought, reflection, and advise from trusted counselors, I have come up with the following outline. Please forgive any theological nuances, as I am not a professional theologian.

1. All human beings (save Christ, the Eternal Son of God) are born sinners with a sinful nature that separates us from God. Even though a baby might be too young to willfully sin, they are still born with a sinful nature. In other words, it is your sinful nature that gives rise to sins. Your sins do not make you a sinner, but the fact you were born a sinner gives rise to your committing sins. As a result, we all need to be saved. This was accomplished through Christ's atoning, substitutionary death on the cross. (cf. Rom. 3:23 - 26)

2. Salvation is, and has always been, by grace through faith alone in the work and Person of Jesus Christ alone. I.e., salvation has always been through the Gospel. In OT times they did not know the coming Redeemer by the name "Jesus Christ", but they knew the Gospel in some form or fashion. (cf. Heb. 3:1 - 4:2)

3. Grace means "unmerited favor." Faith means "trust, based on evidence, that results in action." As for the relationship between faith and works, John Calvin hit the nail on the head I think when he said "It is faith alone that saves, but the faith that saves is never found alone." That, in my opinion, is the best one-line resolution between Paul (cf. Rom 3:20) and James (Jas 2:24).

4. Salvation consists of three things: (a) Justification, (b) Sanctification, and (c) Glorification.

(a) Justification -- is going from being a condemned sinner to a saved sinner. It is the righteousness of Christ, none of our own, put to our account. In other words, it is Christ's imputed righteousness. It is obtained by grace through faith alone in the work and Person of Jesus Christ alone. It's function is to save us into heaven.

(b) Sanctification -- is typically called "spiritual maturity" nowadays. In short, it is growth in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, wherein, among other things, we overcome our sinful habits and we (hopefully) sin less and less as we become more spiritually mature. It is the righteousness of Christ, none of our own. In other words, it is Christ's imparted righteousness. It is obtained by grace through faith alone in the work and Person of Jesus Christ alone. It's function is to bring glory to God (i.e., "so that they might see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.").

We do not earn salvation by our obedience; for salvation is the free gift of God, to be received by faith. Obedience is the fruit, not the root, of faith. Hence, I strive to keep the Ten Commandments for this reason, i.e., as the result of my salvation, not the cause of my salvation.

(c) Glorification -- Is when Christ returns, raises the dead in Christ and takes both the raised and living saints to heaven in our immortal bodies. It is obtained by grace through faith alone in the work and Person of Jesus Christ alone.

Or, in short, Justification is freedom from sin's condemnation, Sanctification is freedom from sin's power, and Glorification is freedom from sin's presence ... all of which are accomplished by grace through faith alone in the work and Person of Jesus Christ alone. I can no more raise my self from the dead by my own efforts than I can justify or sanctify myself by my own efforts.

Lastly, how is this faith obtained? I like the following explanation.

Faith is a gift. It is not something you work on or work up. It is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Faith is not spiritual wishful thinking, or forcing yourself to believe by sheer willpower and turning off the intellect. Faith is trust, based on evidence, that results in action. Faith in Christ is trust in Christ, based on evidence, that results in action.

However, even though faith is a gift, is there any role the individual plays in faith? Yes, and here is the analogy I like (albeit it is imperfect):

How does one get to trust anyone? By getting to know them. And if they person is trustworthy, all you have to do is get to know them, and you cannot help but to trust them. Similarly, if that person is untrustworthy, all you gotta do is get to know them, and you cannot help but to not trust them. And one thing I find in my Bible is the premise that Jesus Christ is absolutely trustworthy.

So, how does one get to have faith (trust) Jesus? By getting to know Him. How does one get to know Jesus? Just like with anyone else. You talk to them. They talk to you, And you go out and do things together. You will then get to know them. How does one talk to Jesus? Prayer. How does Jesus talk to you? Bible study. How do you go out and do things together? Christian fellowship, church, mission activity, etc.

Or, as one of my favorite pastor's puts it: Prayer, fellowship, and tell someone else what you got out of the first two.

RV Travel Tips For The Beginner And Seasoned RV Enthusiast

Theres never been a better time to take up the RV life. Whether youre a weekend wanderer, a snowbird or a full-timer, theres an RV to suit any travel budget and any taste. With baby boomers starting to hit retirement age, more and more people are taking to the road with their motor home, RV or travel trailer. The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association recently reported that nearly 8 million American households have and RV, motor home or travel trailer and that there are as many as 30 million RV enthusiasts in the US.

Seeing the country in an RV offers many benefits to the traveler looking for an affordable and exciting way to spend quality family time. According to one study, a family of four can save up to 74% traveling by RV instead of more conventional ways. And with more than 16,000 public and privately-owned campgrounds in the US, theres a site to fulfill everyones vacation fantasy, whether its an oceanfront view, hiking trails, casino gambling or tennis.

RV travel is easy to learn, and once youve got the hang of it, therell be no going back! Here are six helpful tips that will come in handy for both the beginning and seasoned RV enthusiast:

Map it Out

A large part of the RV appeal is the exhilarating freedom of the open road to go wherever you want, whenever you want. But it helps to have a solid travel plan in place. If you know where youre heading, you can determine the best route, which offers the most interesting places to see. Look in travel guides, contact tourism boards in states youll be passing through, and search on the Internet. Make sure to have the correct road maps with you; a GPS system is a good idea as well, especially if youre new to this kind of travel. If youve carefully designed the route youll be taking, it makes it easier to do spur-of-the moment things like checking out that oddball museum you just spotted on a roadside billboard!

Have A Checklist? Just Checking

During your pre-trip prep, in addition to working out what needs to be in the RV, put together a thorough checklist of things to do when setting up at a campground. There are the basics, like finding out where all the campground connections are, making sure your RV is level and properly hooking up your water, gas and electric systems but dont forget comfort concerns, like making sure youve packed your favorite CDs and DVDs and those new lawn chairs. Equally important, you should have a second checklist of what has to be done when you break camp, both in terms of setting up your RV for departure (quick hint: when you think the job is done and everything is ready, check again).

Be Prepared - Have A Just-For-The-RV First Aid Kit

Always make sure you have a fully stocked, up-to-date, just-for-the-RV First Aid kit, and keep it in an outside storage compartment. It should include basic medical supplies (bandages, ointment, OTC pain reliever, insect repellant, scissors, etc.) and items like a flashlight, paper and writing implements, and a disposable camera in case you have to take photos of an accident site. If you dont feel up to the task of putting one together yourself, an extensive range of ready-made First Aid kits are available for purchase. Also include an emergency supply of must-have medications and a list of important contact names (family members, doctors, insurance agents etc).

Camping with Kids

If youre traveling with children, make sure to set aside time during the day for outdoor activities, as even the roomiest RV can be confining for kids. And give each child his or her own space in the RV, no matter how small, for personal stuff and toys and games. RV traveling is a unique opportunity for your children to see new and different places and faces. There are often plenty of other kids at campgrounds but be sure to walk around a new campground with your children when you first get settled there. They need to know which campsite youre in and how to find it from other places on the grounds. If youre also taking the family pet, check beforehand to see if theyre allowed at the campground

A Little Help From Your Friends

When in doubt, ask your fellow RVer. However well-traveled you might be, odds are theres someone youll meet along the way who has been somewhere you havent, solved a problem you havent yet encountered, or spotted an out-of-the-way delight youve never heard of. No matter how much research youve done, theres bound to be a campsite you havent read about, a storage system that has escaped your notice or a funny anecdote that youll laugh about for years to come. The new folks you meet may or may not become close friends for life, but theyre an important part of the journey.

Educational Baby Toys are Lots of Fun

If you dont have a baby or havent had one it may be a difficult task trying to figure out what kind of gift to buy. What we are going to focus on here is a specific age group which is the best way to go about buying gifts for babies since they are changing so rapidly. Babies this age are crawling all over and some are beginning to walk so toys that they can play with in this way are especially desirable.

At this age objects are now more than just objects to look at, they now look at them as things to play with. They are also interested in interactive games and problem solving so with that in mind lets look at some toy ideas.

First off, in keeping with the idea that babies this age are beginning to walk around a bit, push toys are a good choice. The push toys will help them keep their balance as they are learning to walk, just be sure that it has enough weight to give the baby some exercise while working on their motor skills.

Shape sorters are also good choices at this age requiring the baby to sort through shapes and solving problems of how to place one shape inside another and so on. The toys will keep a baby occupied for hours on end.

If you have a sandbox for the baby to play in, sandbox toys like buckets and shovels will be a lot of fun.

Toy telephones and computers are also great. Babies learn a lot by watching us and they will talk forever to an imaginary person on the other end of a toy phone. They love toy versions of adult items. Toy laptops that make beeping noises can be a great gift as well.

Three dimensional pop up books that foster interactivity can be very interesting to babies.

The last items on our list for now are is building blocks. Blocks will be a staple toy that babies will enjoy for years. Wooden blocks, Lincoln logs, Big Legos, and other similar blocks will provide hours of creative, motor skill building fun.

Do Not Go Past Google, Do Not Collect $200

Are you relying too heavily on one Pay-Per-Click advertising network for your affiliate marketing? Some affiliates rely on Google AdWords only, and they are losing out on a great deal of revenue.

Many affiliates get into affiliate marketing after reading one of the popular ebooks on the topic that are sold online. But most of these ebooks concentrate on training people to use Google AdWords. I figure that is because Google has higher traffic volumes and because it is very easy to quickly set up your first affiliate campaigns. Many affiliates never get past AdWords, though, and that is where they are losing out.

You should already know that its never a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. Particularly when that one basket has seen better days. I can assure you that relying heavily on one advertising network, particularly Google AdWords, is not a smart strategy for growing your affiliate marketing business.

For some affiliate products advertising at the other networks will be even more profitable. In fact you should be using all of the three major pay-per-click networks. They are Yahoo Search Marketing, Microsoft Adcenter, and Google Adwords.

Here are five reasons why you should consider using a different Pay-Per-Click advertising network.

Reason One You Receive No Traffic

Sometimes when you set up a campaign at one of the advertising networks, you dont receive any traffic. This can happen for a number of reasons. Sometimes you can change something in your campaign to get your ads running, but other times nothing seems to help. So switch advertising network. You could be up and running in no time.

Reason Two Because of Editorial Policy

Sometimes you cannot get certain ad campaigns to be accepted due to the particular networks editorial and content policies.

For example, Google has recently been rejecting campaigns that promote sites for music and movie file-sharing. Ive been trying to run a legitimate campaign for one of the major legal music downloading services, and its just taking too much effort to get Google to look closer and recognize that my campaign is legitimate. I have more or less given up and the campaign is now running at Yahoo Search Marketing and MSN Adcenter instead.

Reason Three For Price of Traffic

Sometimes the price at which you can get traffic on a given keyword phrase will vary widely from one network to another. So if you are not getting traffic at a price you are willing to pay, try switching to another advertising network.

Reason Four To Replicate Your Campaigns

What do you usually do after you find a successful affiliate product? Do you improve your ads, add more keywords, add more countries, and increase your investment? Well, dont forget to add more advertising networks.

For every successful affiliate campaign you identify, you should be trying to get it running profitably at all three major Pay-Per-Click networks, if at all possible.

Reason Five To Test New Products and Retest Old Ones

Too many affiliate marketers are only testing out new affiliate marketing campaigns at Google AdWords. The, if the affiliate product is successful at Google AdWords they might roll out the campaign on the other networks. This strategy is seriously flawed.

The problem with this is that there are so many affiliate marketers using Google AdWords compared with a few years ago. They have pushed up the price of traffic on many of the popular keywords and it is much harder to get low-priced clicks now in many topic areas. An affiliate product that was once very good may no longer be profitable using AdWords because of the rising price of traffic.

And that right there is why many affiliates give up. I recommend that affiliates break out of the habit of only using Google Adwords to test new affiliate products. Try some products first at Yahoo Search Marketing or MSN Adcenter. Remember that traffic may or may not be cheaper than AdWords. That is not critical either way, because you will quickly discover that conversion ratios are different too.

I have given you five reasons to take your advertising dollars and spend them somewhere else. Your affiliate marketing business will be better off if you do.

Perhaps you should go back to some of the affiliate products you tested and threw away at AdWords. You just might identify some affiliate products that are actually profitable using another pay-per-click network.

What About Cheap Breast Pumps for the Breast-Feeding Mother?

Walk into any Wal-Mart, Target or Babies R Us in the United States and you will see cheap breast pumps. Seeing them everywhere lends certain credence. Many of the companies that market these cheap breast pumps have long-standing reputations in the manufacturing of toys, car seats, strollers, baby bottles, and solid baby foods. Stores must be selling a large number of them. Why would anyone spend $200 or more on a Medela, Avent, or Ameda breast pump, when you can buy one of these cheap ones?

Actual users of cheap breast pumps have said the pumps were painful, caused nipple injuries and were unable to express their milk. For women who were able to express breast milk, the pumps were messy, with milk getting in the tubing and other places impossible to fully clean. The electric breast pumps had motors that were noisy and died after short term use. A typical comment was dont waste your money.

In a letter written to the maker of a cheap breast pump, one woman said, the pump is very painful, and I cant stress this fact enough. I even called your company to see if maybe something was wrong with the pump. Nothing was. . . . I stopped breast-feeding and pumping altogether and switched to formula. It was so painful for the next two and a half weeks that I went nowhere because I could not stand to have clothing or even breast pads touch my nipples.

Another mother who was unsuccessful at expressing any milk with one of these cheap breast pumps wrote, "I am very disappointed with my experiences with this pump. It destroyed my confidence in my body and caused me to give up expressing milk. She began supplementing with formula. On her second baby she used a well-reviewed breast pump and had no problems at all. Many women falsely conclude it is their own incompetence or their own lack of breast milk supply when a breast pump is ineffective. These false ideas will start a mother on the slippery slope of less nursing, less pumping, supplementing with formula, and in no time at all, the baby is weaned.

The purchase of a cheap breast pump is a risk. If you are committed to breast feeding your baby or expressing breast milk for your baby you should stay away from these pumps. Better to buy your babys clothes and other gear at garage sales, consignment sales and eBay, and put your saved money towards a well-reviewed breast pump. Also, if you are trying to decide between breast pumping and using formula, look carefully at the cost of formula. Take into account the increased intake of formula as your baby grows. Consider also the immunity your baby receives from your breast milk as well as at least one hundred other benefits. It may well be that buying a cheap breast pump is just not worth it.

How To Hire A Copywriter

From a copywriter's point of view, it would be great if clients had a crystal ball that they could use to see which copywriter best suits their project. There are different types of writing and first-hand experience proves that only a handful of people really know there's a difference. To digress for a moment, we've even come across clients who think that web designers are supposed to write the copy for their web pages. Most don't. It makes sense. Web designers design. Web developers develop or write code, html or php, and build the structure of your site. So... that leaves you with your web content. Who writes your copy, and how do you publish web content that is going to attract web traffic and then persuade your web visitors to buy?

It seems so obvious, but the fact of the matter is, it isn't. A few years ago, I fellow I met said to me, "What does anyone need a copywriter for?" It's true. Copywriters were invisible, a behind-the-scene professional. Ad agencies used to be one of the only places you could find copywriters working, or at least working steadily. Look at Hollywood. For years and years, writers were not even recognized. Now, writers are not only recognized, but celebs go the extra mile to praise the writer associated with their project. This change in attitude toward screenwriters -- along with the Internet -- puts the spotlight on the value writers bring to a project.

When it comes to the Internet, I am happy to report that a professional copywriter is in high demand. The Internet is all about copy. Whether for web pages, email marketing, pay-per-click advertising, banner ads or autoresponders, the words you publish make or break the entire investment. Big companies with inhouse marketing departments and agencies know when and why to call on the copy writer. But, here's the cause that no one talks about driving small business people to the professional writer. Everyone and anyone sees the words on your website. The world knows if the words on your home page are junk! How embarrassing is that.

With all this, there still comes the novice client who doesn't have a clue what the value of a good writer is. So from a copywriter's point of view, I have some tips on when and how to hire a copywriter.

A. When to hire a professional copywriter or scriptwriter

1) When you are in business

2) When you can't write and might be embarrassed publishing poorly composed text

3) When you don't have anyone working in your company that is a professional writer

4) When you expect a response

5) When you publish text on the Internet

B. How to hire a professional copywriter or scriptwriter

1) The first step is to hire the right writer for the project. If you want a writer to work on a software manual, look for a technical writer. If you want a news release, find a writer who specializes in public relations. If you want to sell, engage the services of an advertising copywriter or a commercial scriptwriter. By the way, the top two writers in business and industry are the direct mail writer and the scriptwriter.

A writer who is a jack-of-all types of writings is a writer who probably isn't an expert in the type of writing you're looking for. After all, even the profession of copywriting includes less than capable writers. Rely on that old adage, if you can write anything, you are good at nothing.

Look for a copywriter who concentrates on one objective and because of that, the writing skills are honed to perfection. Sales copywriting does include several formats, such as direct response advertising, direct mail, mail order, web site pages, email marketing, video scriptwriting - all formats intended to sell - and that's the domain of the sales copywriter -- also known as an advertising copywriter or business writer or just writer.

Advertising copywriters generally don't accept writing assignments for manuals, directories, books, news releases or short stories. Advertising copywriters write to sell!

2) Review writing samples, but keep in mind that copy is sometimes subjective. What's good for one may not suit another, but the project was still a huge success. Copywriting samples are not the end all for deciding who is a good writer. They serve to prove that the writer is a professional writer with several projects completed. The goal is to check that the writer has actually done work on the type of format you need. For example, a writer with a portfolio full of short stories is probably a good writer, but may not have the mindset or skills to write a direct mail letter.

3) Calling references is probably not going to bear much fruit either. I've made a few calls myself and have never heard one bad word. Actually, I can't think of one writer who would name a reference unless they weren't absolutely sure the referral would say glowing things about the writer and the work. But you can look over the company name. When a writer has a Fortune 100 company in their referral list, you've hit the jackpot unless writing fees are too high. And that brings me to the topic fees.

4) The thing about fees is that with copywriting like any other service, you get what you pay for. Low fees generally mean inexperience. Top writers are in demand and don't need to work for $15 an hour. If you want quality copy writing, higher fees are the price. But, that said, consider that in the 'high fee' category, there is generally a range. Top copywriter fees may vary from $30 - $120 per hour. The quality of writing may be the same, but the difference might be an independent writer with no overhead, as opposed to a writer who works for an ad agency with hefty overhead. Weigh all factors when considering your investment in an advertising copywriter.

5) Finally, learn about the writer. I don't mean pry into their personal life. Find out who they've done work for. Review a client list. Ask about previous employment if the writer is independent. Where did the writer get the experience.

When you find a copywriter that suits your needs, treat your writer like a valued part of your team. I'm adding this because I have experienced a few demanding clients who exceeded good will. Who hasn't? Your copywriter is a top salesperson, and should be treated with respect. Provide detailed feedback. Promptly. Pay on time. What you get in return is the best outcome possible.
